MAP COMMENTARY: RIGHT2LIVE
--------------------------
THIS SHIT HAS SPOILERS MAN
--------------------------
I was playing with the thought of contributing a map to the USP speedmapping contest in 1-2 days, seeing as so many contestants prematurely dropped out. When LOL_PEANUTS announced his 6-hour map plans, I finally got off my ass and decided to join his efforts.
This is my first map release, not counting my very very first SP map (content: 1 enemy, a nali hut, a sphere that was supposed to look like a Skaarj ship) and a couple of 3-room DM maps. First it was supposed to be a 1 street joke release - at the end of which the player dies a simple painful death by either a Skaarj shuttle or a bridge crushing down on him. I begged .:..:, a blessed coder, to make a simple bystander NPC for me so I could create the illusion of a living town with people walking around. Around the time he finished the NPC I was half done with what little architecture my map contains and just decided to change the general map setting by staging a zombie apocalypse instead. The map is a reference to the game Left 4 Dead in both name and general design theory (lighting etc). I then changed the map from a day-time setting to a night-time setting and dug out some old code from .:..:'s DeadCity project. I remembered the zombies from that map to have fully customizable statistics, something that made them perfect for my map since I could adjust them to my liking. Well, then it was just a matter of finishing up the map build, give the player some guns and find a way to initiate the apocalypse and spawn zombies on the map. Because of writing this and doing some final tests my submission is 40 minutes late, but I hope that can be forgiven and you had fun playing the map.
